This expression describes the feeling of disappointment when something that is still usable is discarded, you waste things that you do not really need, or someone with a talent cannot fully show his/her ability.
Using so much paper is a sheer waste. Sonna ni kami o tsukatte wa mottainai.

I don’t need a bag. Fukuro wa irimasen.
I have my own bag. Jibun no fukuro o motte imasu.
