Mr. Morton received a BSBA in accounting in 1984.

Mr. Morton has been employed with the Department of Public Instruction since 1985.

He is married to Jacquelin Hawkins-Morton, a fellow East Carolina University graduate. They have one son, Nelson.

Mr. Morton is active in his church, served as a assistant coach of Nelson’s basketball team and is a den leader in Nelson’s cub scout pack.
