El Taxo - $3 - $7 - 909 Foch & Luis Cordero - The hippest arty Hostel this side of the Equator. A classic Quito depot for the budget traveler. Recommended by all the major guide books ... relaxed, homey atmosphere.

Hostal Reina - New place offers private and shared rooms.
Hostal Vienna - $13 (private bath) - Tomayo 879 y Foch - spacious rooms at a very low rate. OK but did not have windows to the outside - only to inner hallway. The owners blasted the radios late at night so not recommended if you need to study! (NJ)
El Remanso Furnished Apartments – Diego de Almagro between Orellana and Colon - kitchens, laundry and cleaning services, airport transportation, telephone, Internet access, cable television, tours, and more. Prices worked out to about $4.80 per night. (NJ)

The owner, Eliza Manteca, is a grassroots environmentalist, who is one of the founders of the Golondrinas Foundation. La Casona de Mario - $6 - Friendly atmosphere. Double and triple rooms with shared bathrooms. Hot water all the time, kitchen, living room, cable TV, garden, washing facilities, garage, storage. Safe area.
Very nice place. One of the best features being the kitchen where we could cook our own meals - and a nice central area for talking with other travellers. It's an old spanish colonial influenced two story house with wood floors, and tastefully decorated. (DT)
El Cafecito - $6 shared - $9 single in twin-bed room. None have private bathroom. Hot water 24 hours. Laundry. A good place to meet fellow backpackers, great cafe downstairs. They were also in a great across the street from 3 internet cafes. (NJ)

Loro Verde Hostal - $8 - $10 - Rodriguez y Amalgro - very clean, safe, quiet and you can get own room and bathroom. The owners are helpful in suggesting interesting (less touristy) excursions.(NJ)

Located in quiet, safe, residential neighbourhood 15-minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride to restaurants, bars, and night-life. Hot water 24 hours, safe deposit, baggage storage, free Internet use, pleasant lounge with cable TV; free transfers to/from airport if staying 3 nights or more. English and French spoken.
