CHARLES DARWIN SCIENTIFIC STATION

Its is a support station for the Galapagos National Park, investigating
the resources of the island. It offers lodging to researchers.
Esmeraldas Province:
AWA BIOANTHROPOLOGIC RESERVE
Adm.: Ecuadorian Awa Technical Plan Unit 247,100 acres.
A tropical
rain forest filled with exuberant jungle, giant ferns, vines
epiphytes. A continuation of the Choco Region in Colombia, it
is inhabited by the Awa Indian community.
Los Rios Province:
RIO PALENQUE SCIENTIFIC CENTER
Adm.: Dr. Calaway Dodson 247 acres
Located in a tropical rain forest with a high biodiversity: 1,216
plant species, 231 epiphytes, 112 vine species, 360 bird species.
350 butterfly species and a long listo of other animals have been
recorderd. The center can accomodate 26 people comfortably. It
has a library.
PEDRO FRANCO DAVILA SCIENTIFIC STATION (JAUNECHE):
Adm.: Departament of Natural Sciences of Guayaquil University 321 acres
The tropical rain forest is very diverse, reportin 723
species of vascular plants, 231 epiphyts and 92 vine species,
one of the highest plant concentration. It has lodging facilities.
Imbabura Province:
USHCURRUMI FOREST
Adm.: Its owners & University of San Francisco de Quito 1,236 acres.
Representing Andean forest scenery, avifauna and
observations trails.
Guayas Province:
GUAYAQUIL BOTANICAL GARDENS
Adm.: Ecuadorian Orchid Society 12 acres.
A collection of more
than 3,000 plants, includin 150 species of Ecuadorian and foreign
orchids. There are guides and a coffee shop. Plants and garden
as well.
CAPEIRA SCIENTIFIC STATION
Adm.: Natura FoundationGuayaquil
If offers wellconserved collection of dry torpical forest,
with a total of 772 plant species and an interesting bird population.
CERRO BLANCO PROTECTED FOREST
Adm.: Cement Company & Natura FoundationGuayaquil 2,471 acres It protects a dry, tropical forest in the coastal region,
and is one of the protected areas closest to Guayaquil. 150 bird
species have been recorded.
LOS ESTEROS PROTECTED FOREST
Adm.: Ecuadorian Army & San Francisco de Orellana Foundation 1,532 acres.
The typical Guayaquil mangrove inlet which will be
equipped with recreational areas paths and observation sites
for bird watching, environmental education center.
El Oro Province:
PUYANGO PETRIFIED FOREST
Adm.: Puyango Petrified Forest Commision 6,568 acres
Contain the world's largest collection of tree, plant and animal
fossils. It is equipped with footpaths, as welll as tourist and
camping facilities. 130 species of birds.
Napo Province:
JATUN SACHA BIOLOGICAL STATION
Adm.: Jatun Sacha Foundation 741 acres
Full of tropical rain forest flora and fauna, with more than 200
tree special per acre, 68 species of amphibian and 358 birds species.
There is shelter and footpaths. Publications and guides are offered.
The Foundation also offers guide course on Amazon ecology.
SACHAPACHA SCIENTIFIC STATION IMUYA CAMPIRIPARI LODGE
Adm.: Fecodes foundationMetropolitan Touring.
Primary tropical rain forest, it supports relevant flora and fauna, as well as lagoons
with variety of fish. There are good scientific and tourist installations
and Orellana Flotel services.
YUTURI ECOTOURIST COMPLEX AND RESEARCH CENTER
Adm.: Ecuambiente S.A. 4,942 acres
Of fluvial lagoons and primary, tropical rain forest, as well
as a substantial concentration of water birds, mammals, reptiles
and insects. There are 15 cabins, a restaurant, guide services,
aquatic and forest footpaths, as well as scientific information
on the flora and fauna.
ALIAHUI RESERVE
Adm.: Aliahui Hotel Cabins 247 acres
Tropical rain forest, 7 cabins and guided tours of the area.

MAZAN PROTECTED FOREST
Adm.: Amigos de Mazan Ecological Group & Municipal Potable
Water Company
It is an Andean forest, protecting the hydrographic basin which
provides water for Cuenca. It is rich in Andean flora and fauna.
Sucumbios Province:
LA SELVA RESERVE AND INN
Adm.: Hosteria La Selva
It is equipped with an inn, restaurant, footpaths and guides.
Surrounded by tropical rain foret and lagoons, trips down the
Napo River are also offered.
AMAZON JUNGLE VILLAGE

Tropical rain forest, rivers with sandy beaches, Amazon flora
and fauna.
CUYABENO BIOLOGICAL STATION
Adm.: Quito's Catholic University
It is located within the Cuyabena Reserve.
CUYABENO JUNGLE SHELTER
Adm.: Nuevo Mundo Expeditions 130 acres
It is located in "buffer zone" at Cuyabeno Reserve.
It offers 10 cabins with guided excursions by professional naturalists.
Loja Province:
LA ARGELIA RECREATIONAL AREA AND REINALDO ESPINOSA BOTANICAL GARDEN

It has an interesting collection of regional botany, which is
complemented by areas, observation points and footpaths. Visits
are guided.
Pichincha Province:
PASOCHOA PROTECTED FOREST
Adm.: Natura Foundation 988 acres
A well protected estate. The Andean forest contains a variety
of birds and mammals typical in this type of vegetation. There
is a visitor's center, camping facilities, paths and guide service.
THOMAS DAVIS SCIENTIFIC STATION MAQUIPUCUNA RESERVE
Adm.: Maquipucuna Foundation 6,178 acres
Cloud forest, very diverse flora and fauna, a camp and basic services.
Several ecological studies and collections have been made here.
ANTISANA RESERVE (CONDOR SANCTUARY)
Adm.: Antisana Foundation 185,325 acres
Antisana, a snowcovered volcano is located here, as well
as its surrounding paramos, lakes and streams. There is a variety
of fauna, topped by the presence of the condor. Walks and mountain
climbing are popular here.
MUNDONAMBILLO PROTECTED FOREST
Adm.: Tierra Viva & Amigos de la Naturaleza Ecological Group.47,443 acres
It is a typical cloud forest on the westerm slopes of the Andean
mountain range. There is hotel service, a pool and golf.
JUAN MANUEL DURINI STATION
Adm.: Juan Manuel Durini Foundation 2,471 acres
Contains a natural forest, as well as tropical forest plantations.
There is lodging and footpaths. It is a refuge form many bird
and mammal species.
