He was buried in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Cocoa, Brevard, Florida.155 Lydia was an accomplished seamstress
and did fine hand needlework. They moved to Orlando, Florida in 1907 after George
responed to an ad in the Camden paper for someone to assist in opening a sanitarium
in Orlando. From the Okeechobee Methodist Church history book: Okeechobee Methodist
Church was organized as a "class" by Rev. W.O. Troutman May 1915 with
seven members. Later that year the Okeechobee company deeded them land for a
church. The frame building erected 1916 served as a church and parsonage. The
present brick structure dedicated in 1926. Old building was remolded for the
parsonage. Annex built 1924, Educational Building in 1959. Pastors serving this
church have been Troutman, Henderson, Bennett, Crowson, Lee, Howell, Standifer,
White, Jones, Boyette, and the present pastor the Rev. V.J. Ragsdale. Rev. George
Thomas Bennett served as pastor from September 1917 through December 1919. The
grandchildren and great grandchildren called George Thomas "Popsey".
He had more than one occupation. He was a Methodist minister, a doctor, and while
residing in New Jersey, he worked as a druggist (information from census). In
his latter years, he lost most of his vision and used to walk his great grandchildren
around in Cocoa using his cane. His daughter, Hazel, moved her parents to Eau
Gallie six months before his death so she could assist with his care. George
Thomas was a Mason and Lydia and Hazel R. were members of the Grand Chapter Order
of the Eastern Star of the State of Florida. To the grandchildren and great grandchildren,
