Richard Douglas Black was born on the family farm northwest of Reliance. He attended and graduated from Reliance High School, then went on to the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, playing basketball as he went. During his Sophomore year, he married Gloria Beaudin of Chamberlain  Sept. 1, 1951, at St. James  Catholic church in Chamberlain. After graduating, they moved to St. Clair Shores, Mich. where he was the head basketball coach at Lake View High School for 27 years.

Three children: Ricky, Terry, Susan

Dick and Gloria have lived all of their lives in Michigan. In 1985, he was inducted into the Michigan State High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Following his retirement from coaching, he  remained in the school system as athletic director and teacher. They are now enjoying their retirements between their home in northern Michigan as well as in Arizona and Texas, visiting their children, his sister, Ann (Farmington, NM.) and friends along the way.

As soon as I can shut them down for a few minutes I will get some information for their page.  barbara
