One of my favourite fortes is
the infusion of life onto canvasses or high-grade drawing paper, and
if the challenge stirs me, even sculpture. But my number one choice
of them all is the pencil. It is a fascinating technique rarely
explored to its fullest potential! It is one fo the best graphic
means for detailed work.
The pencil can withstand considerable
pressure and is also capable of recording the most subtle accents,
when applied by a concerned, patient artist. Over my career, I have
drawn, painted or sketched everything from pots and pans to fashions,
from autos to portraits. Pen and ink is another favourite of mine.
Watercolors and oils are a mental challenge, but I always return to
the pencil.
As far back as I can remember, I have always
had a pen, pencil or brush in my hand. Both grade and high school
gave me challenges at an early age. But I began developing the pencil
skill while in the armed forces. During the Korean war, I was in the
USAF Strategic Air Command as a radio-ECM operator on B-29 bombers. I
would constantly be drawing after completing my basic duties while on
long training flight missions. Some of those flights lasted many
hours and drawing was a way of breaking up the monotony.
All three of my children and my four
grandchildren have the 'art bug', but show no signs of a desire to
pursue it.
My wife Louise and I reside in Cuyahoga
Falls, Ohio.
