South of France - April 2000

After a long and exhausting Exchange 2000 course for Jacqui in Sophia Antipolis, Ed flew over to meet her for a few days holiday. Ed's favourite sister, Louise, happened to live nearby in Monaco. She provided superb accommodation, a shipping magnate and a small child.

Monaco

The sea in the harbour pretty rough when Ed and Jacqui went down around midnight to investigate.
Ed sitting uncomfortably on the Monte Carlo harbour wall.
Then it was Jacqui's turn.
Just before a huge wave came from nowhere and soaked our intrepid explorers, Ed managed to get this picture. Despite getting completely soaked the MX-700 carried on working - albeit after a night drying out!

Cannes

Asparagus neatly arranged at a market in Cannes.
More from the market in Cannes. People eat this stuff? Hmmm.
In the summer this beach is sunny and really hip, but when we were there it was all a little more wintry. A good job then that Jacqui wore more than just her swimsuit.
No trip to the South of France would be complete without a chance to gawk at some quality Art Nouveau glass. This time M. Rene Lalique obliged.

Nice

At an evening meal in Nice, Ed ordered what looked to be an averagely proportioned chocolate mousse for desert. Little did he know that the restaurant would clear the EEC chocolate and sugar mountains in one go just to prepare it for him!
At the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum in Nice, Jacqui came across a weird mirror in the loos.

St Paul de Vence

St Paul de Vence is a classic old style French town/village nestling at the very top of a hill. It's now an artists' colony and contains the rather wonderful Golden Thumb restaurant.
Jacqui and Laura share a moment.
Laura keeps on smiling as the scary looking bald guy abducts her.
Like brother, like sister. The Wenns bashing their mobiles.
Ed & Laura chilling on a bench taking in the view around St Paul.
Laura found a cat to play with....
But then it ran away. Laura and Jacqui track the cat as it makes its escape.
Louise fending off a sales pitch on her mobile - didn't they know she was on holiday?
