To those who take the time to dig out the meaning, Shakespeare is worth the effort. So with many of these old hymns. We were amazed to learn that the words to this hymn were written by St. Andrew of Crete, around 700 A.D.! Their antiquity and the unfamiliar prose only gives us reason to listen more carefully and ponder the great truths behind the words. |
