More RACE 4 pix from Heat 2 (notes of how "I" take turns 1, 2 & 3 @ Prarie City.)
In turn 1:

How I shift through the turns:  Slowing down after the front straights by feathering the front brake, I down shift to 4th gear (which helps slow me down too with engine braking)  and modulate the throttle through turn 1.

Other guys I've talked to say they drop it in 3rd and pin the throttle through Turn 1.  I tried this once but my bike vibrated too much and I felt like I had no control of the bike.
Pictured here before turn 2:  I try to hug turn 1 until the orange cone (covered by the rider in front, #61 Scott Hadaway), then I drop it down to 3rd gear.   If you are being chased closely then you shouldn't do this because you leave inside line open before turn 2.
Last picture shows us going into turn 2 (very tight chicane ...I use 3rd gear to power me through turns 2 & 3).  I've noticed other racers perform these turns using 2nd gear.
