1959 - First Black student to graduate from Loyola University, New Orleans

1960 - Established center for teaching Voter Registration; also St. Aug faculty members participate on a committee which worked successfully to get equal job opportunities for Blacks in Canal Street stores; St. Aug also served as a center for operations for groups which participated in successful efforts to integrate lunch counters in New Orleans

1961 - Established free, full year remedial program courses for Blacks who entered the newly desegregated University of New Orleans (UNO, formerly LSU-New Orleans)

1964 - First Presidential Scholar in Louisiana
St. Aug still has more Presidential Scholars (6) than any Catholic school and Louisiana

1964 - First Black student to enter the Tulane University Science Fair

1975 - Leonard Augustine named "Outstanding Teacher of English" in the United States; it was during this decade that Mr. Augustine was also the first Black teacher to serve on the executive council of the Louisiana High School Speech League

1975 - First AAAA football team to go undefeated in the LHSAA and win state championship

1988 - Speech & Debate Team set record for most points ever accumulated at a tournament in New Orleans (Brother Martin Tournament, 695 points); also first Black school to host the National Catholic Forensic League Tournament; team also won LHSSL Tournament of Champions in Individual Events; it was during this decade that Mr. Augustine became the first Black teacher to serve as president of the New Orleans Catholic Forensic League

1995 - First Louisiana basketball team to win the USA Today National Championship
Team featured Eugene Edgerson and St. Aug is called "The Louisiana high school team of the '90's because of their four trips to the state championship.

1999 - "Passing Glory" airs on TNT
Movie is about the secret game between St. Aug and Jesuit High School in 1967 to determine who the "real state championship team" was (since the LHSAA did not allow Black schools to participate in the league).  The main character is based on Harold Sylvester.

2000 - "Bended Knees", documentary about "The Marching 100" is released

2002 - "Marching 100" is the first Louisiana band to participate in the Tournament of Roses parade

2003 - Between Law and Hope is released

2004 - "Marching 100" participates in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

2005 - First Black editor of The Los Angeles Times
