"Special Ones" Co-Op Venture's premier performance took place in November of 1994 at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. John Toomey, Professor of Jazz Studies, was preparing for his annual faculty recital, the concept being a concert of original music composed by him and some of his close friends and musical collaborators. Performed before an overflowing crowd, and with less than adequate rehearsal time, something incredible happened. The band was able to draw upon the trust and empathy they had established to bring the music to life. The high degree of interplay and creativity found on this recording is a direct result of the experiences shared by musicians who have played to gether, and listened together, for quite some time.
