Aine is an Irish Gaelic name meaning “Fire,” or “Radiance.” It comes from Aodnait, the feminine of Aodh (or Aodhan) and thus is related to Aidan.

In Gaelic mythology, Áine was the queen of the fairies and the name can be found in the early Middle Ages in Ireland. After the 14th century, it can be found again, often used as a way to render Ann (they are unrelated etymologically).
