History:
Originally Anselm was a name found almost exclusively in Lombardy (Italy). It was introduced to England with St. Anselm (1033-1109), an Archbishop of Canterbury, who was born in Lombardy. Although never common, the name can be found from the 12th century onwards.
Anselm was briefly revived by the Tractarians in the 19th century, along with the names of other early British saints (Chad, Aidan, Wilfred, etc.)
