Aude is the French form of Alda, which comes from a Germanic name and means Old, or or Elder.
History:
In the Charlemagne legends of the Middle Ages, Aude was the wife of Orlando and the sister of Oliver. The name was rather rare in England (where it was Alda), but could be found in France from the 14th to the 17th centuries.
