Etymology:
Beata is the feminine form of the Latin word “beatus,” or “blessed.”

History:
Although never popular, as a saintly name (there were several saints named Beatus) Beata was found in England from the 12th to the 18th centuries. The name was more common in Germany and Poland than in England or France.

In Scotland, it was often used as a “translation” of the native Gaelic name Beathag (“Life”).

Pronunciation: bee-ah-tah.
