Berinthia is a literary name, invented for Colley Cibber’s 1696 play Love’s Last Shift, used in Sir John Vanbrugh’s 1696 The Relapse, sequel/send up of Cibber’s play, and again used in Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s 1777 remake of Vanbrugh’s work, Trip to Scarborough. The character of Berinthia was a seducer.
