Beulah

Gender: Feminine
Language
: English
Etymology:
Beulah is a Hebrew name meaning “Married.”

History:
Beulah was originally used as an adjective for Israel (“the Land of Beulah”). After the Reformation, it was occasionally used as a first name due to its benevolent meaning (“married”). During the 19th and early 20th centuries it was occasionally found in the United States, especially among Black Americans. However, a 1950s television show entitled Beulah about a black maid serving a white family probably contributed to the name’s demise.
