Bronwen

Gender: Feminine.
Language
: Welsh
Etymology:
Bronwen is a Welsh name meaning “White Breast” or “White Raven” from “bron” (breast), or “bran” (raven), and “gwen” (fair).
(the spelling Bronwyn, if one goes by the rules of Welsh, would be a masculine name).

History:
The first recording of Bronwen (in the form Branwen) is found in tragic legends of the 14th century about a Welsh princess, her brother Bran (the king), and her Irish husband. In England the name was noted once (as Brangwayna) in the Middle Ages and was probably borrowed from the French forms of the Arthurian stories. Bronwen remained a literary name until 19th century. Thereafter, it became quite common in Wales.
