Cyprian was an ethnic name originally, and given to people from the island of Cyprus. It belonged an early Bishop of Carthage (St. Cyprian). As a saintly name, it was occasionally found in England until the Reformation. It was rather more popular in highly Catholic countries like Spain and Italy.
