Delores is an English alternate version of Dolores, a Spanish name meaning Sorrows.
History:
Dolores was originally a title affixed to the Virgin Mary. Spanish speakers would refer to Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (Our Lady of the Sorrows). Many girls would be given a contracted version like María Dolores. Later, the titles themselves became names.
As Dolores became popular in the United States (in the thirties), Delores did too.
