Diana is the name of the Roman goddess of the moon and the hunt (Artemis, in Greek mythology). The name may be connected with “deus” (god).

History:
Diana did not appear as a personal name until the Renaissance. It reached England in the 16th century. It did not become common, however, until Sir Walter Scott’s 1817 novel Rob Roy, featuring Diana Vernon.
