Dominica is the feminine form of the name Dominic. Dominic is the English form of the Latin name Dominicus, meaning “of the Lord.”

History:
Dominica was a name found every so often in the Middle Ages. As Dominga, it was found in Spain from at least the 13th century onwards (although it never became as popular as its masculine counterpart, Domingo.

In England Dominica was the Latin form of the name used in legal documents. The actual form of the name was the same for both men and women: Dominic.

Although Dominic has been common in the United States, and although the French form of Dominique, has had some currency, Dominica has not become common here.
