Dulcie is a diminutive from of the Latin word “dulsis,” meaning “Sweet One.”

History:
Dulcie was invented in the 19th century. It may have been given a spur by F. Antsey’s (Thomas Antsey Guthrie) popular, comic 1882 novel Vice Versa about a father and son who magically switch identities. In that book, the name Dulcie was given to a schoolmaster’s daughter.

It is not exactly connected with the medieval name Dulcibella.
