Elbert is a modern, alternate form of Albert, the modern English form the Old Germanic names Adalbert (or Adelbert), or the Old English name Aethelbert, (or Aethelberht, or Ethelbert) . Originally it meant “Noble Bright” from “adal” or “aethel” (noble) and “berht” (bright).

History:
When the name Albert became popular in the mid-19th century, the variant Elbert became common. When Albert declined in the late-20th century, Elbert disappeared.
