Estrild is the modern form of an Old English name Eastorhild, or the old Germanic name Estrildis (or Austrechildis) from “Eastre,” the goddess of the dawn, and “hild” (battle).

History:
Estrild is a name from legend. It belonged to a German princess who became the mistress of King Locrin. She and her daughter (Sabrina) were drowned in the Severn river by the king’s wife (Gwendolyn).

The name survived in England until the 12th century
