Galfridus is the Latin form of Geoffrey, a combination of three names: Gaufrid, Walahfried, and Gisfrid, meaning “Territory Peace,” “Stranger Peace,” and “Pledge Peace,” based on “gawia” (territory), “walah” (stranger), “gisel” (pledge), and “fried” (peace). It was also influenced by the name Godfrey (God’s Peace).

History:
Galfridus is the Latin form of Geoffrey, a form that was found in the 17th and 18th centuries, a time when Latinate names were being revived by the English upper classes.
