History:
Leila belongs to the character of an old Eastern tale. Called Leila and Majnun it is tale of star-crossed lovers, much like Romeo and Juliet.
Leila became a literary name of the 19th century, found in Lord Byrons 1813 work The Giaour (where it belongs to a Turkish slave who loves an outsider) his 1819-1824 work Don Juan (where it belongs to an orphaned girl), and in Edward Bulwer-Lyttons 1838 novel Leila, or The Siege of Granada (a tale set in Spain). By the end of the 19th century it had become quite common.
