Meghan is the Irish Gaelic spelling of Megan, a Welsh diminutive for Margaret, from a Greek name which means “Pearl.”


History:
Megan was almost entirely confined to Wales, until Lady Megan Lloyd-George ( a British politician) brought it to wider attention in the mid-twentieth century. It has since become very popular. In the United States, the variant Meghan became a popular alternative in the late 20th century.
