Etymology:
Peter is the English form of a Greek name, Petros. Petros was, itself, a translation from Aramaic name Cephas. Originally it meant “Rock.”

The first recorded instance of Peter (Petrus) in England is in 1086 after it had been introduced by the Norman conquerors.
