Sharan is a modern alternative for the name Sharon. Sharon is a Hebrew word which means “Plain.”

History:
Sharon was a place name in the Bible. As such it was briefly used as a male name during
the Puritan era. Later, as part of the phrase “Rose of Sharon,” (“I am the rose of Sharon,” Song of Solomon 2-1) it was given as a name to some girls, most notably, to a character in John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath (1936).
