We had the priviledge for the second year in a row to go to yuoth convention April 5th and 6th. It was held at the Cobb County Civic Center. We were able to drive to Atlanta in a tour bus (equipped with plush seats and tv's) this time. Jerry and I supplied to videos - G rated of course. We watched Atlantis, Toy Story, Toy Story to name a few. Friday night they were supposed to have games and stuff set up outside but the weather did not cooperate. It was cold and rainy so while they were setting up inside the kids decided to wait in the bus and watch tv. They were content and even some of the other youth groups that weren't as blessed joined the fun. While we youth leaders helped set up the games inside until we finally were able to go back to the hotel. But at the hotel, almost half of us got stuck in the elevator for 45 minutes - Thank God I wasn't one of them - but we were all there to support the ones that were. The fire department came and finally got them out. It is funny now at least for those of us that were not stuck anyway.
Herbert Cooper was the speaker both Friday and Saturday night. He was really awesome. Friday night he came out in pajamas and a night cap and had a bed on stage. His message was titled "Get Out of Bed, Sleepy Head" and he spoke about how often we hit the snooze button in life thinking we have all the time in the world when that may not be the case. Saturday he spoke about marching around the walls of Jericho. At the end all of the youth pastors went down front and put on war paint and marched around the building. He let us all know that we need to keep marching and following God's will if we are going to break down the walls of the world. It was an awesome experience.
In addition to an awesome speaker and amazing kids we also had the priviledge of enjoying outstanding music from the Praise band Revolution from North Highland Assembly of God right here in Columbus.
