Rod Laver and Stefan Edberg are getting smashed this summer. The Grand Slam dream team of Laver and Edberg as well as current pros Jan-Michael Gambill and Meghann Shaughnessy will grace the clay courts at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club for the second annual adidas tennis smash to benefit the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation.

The adidas smash tennis offers the rare opportunity for fans to see three generations of tennis talent compete together in both singles and doubles. A six-time Grand Slam champion, Edberg was ranked No. 1 in 1990 and 1991 and was the last man to hold the top-ranking in both singles and doubles simultaneously. The legendary Laver is the only man to win the Grand Slam twice — in 1962 and 1969 — and is regarded by many players and fans as the greatest player of all time. Americans Gambill and Shaughnessy have both been ranked in the top 15 in their careers.

A year ago, Laver and Gambill played in the event along with former No. 1 Jim Courier and American Jennifer Hopkins. This year, Edberg, who rarely plays exhibitions in the United States, provides another prominent Grand Slam presence to the event.

"We are overjoyed that Ocean Edge is once again hosting this terrific event with the great support of adidas and Jaguar," said Tom Gullikson, winner of more than 10 Grand Slam senior titles and chairman of the foundation he formed with his twin brother Tim. "Having Stefan join Jan-Michael, Meghann and the Rocket (Laver) in the field this year is a huge honor for us."

The adidas tennis smash is inspired by the late Tim Gullikson, former ATP player and coach of Pete Sampras and Martina Navratilova, who was stricken with brain cancer and passed away in 1996. During his illness, Tim and his twin brother Tom formed the Tim and Tom Gullikson Foundation to fund support programs for brain tumor patients and their families. The foundation is now a significant fundraising source for support, wellness and scholarship programs throughout the country.

Tim Gullikson had a long-standing relationship with Ocean's Edge where he established the Tim Gullikson World Class Tennis School and worked with world-class players Mary Joe Fernandez and Aaron Krickstein at Ocean's Edge. Now, Edberg, Laver, Gambill and Shaughnessy will join Tom Gullikson at the adidas smash tennis to celebrate Tim's enthusiasm for tennis and to support the mission of their foundation.
