FACTS ABOUT JAMES WASHINGTON MCINTIRE

 
Born in Steinerville in 1850; family moved to Franklin District, Marshall County, VA in 1856; seven years later Civil War started when he was 13, too young for service. (EE, p. 7)
He enlisted in the Union Army in 1865 as a private but Silas would not permit him to serve and he was discharged [Thayer, p. 14]
He and "three youngsters" became school teachers; after living at Rocky Run and New Dale, he moved to New Martinsville in 1883; studied law, passed bar, practiced law until 1923  (EE, p. 7)
