The apartment block on 82nd Street

I arrived in Kathy's apartment on the evening of Saturday, 23 December 2000. Carping the diem we headed out on the town immediately and so began my introduction to the streets of Manhattan. Past steaming manhole covers we hastened along Lexington Avenue to 86th Street and descended to the city's subway system. My first experience of Grand Central and Times Square was beneath those attractions and we soon emerged to walk a short distance to the Bubbles Lounge, a champagne bar at 228 West Broadway. After a relaxing dinner in La Nonna we took a bus up Madison Avenue to home.

The apartment is located in a quiet street between Park and Lexington Avenues. The menorah on the sideboard grew another light each day. The Christmas tree stood guard over the building. The neighbours were friendly. Kathy's apartment was bright, airy and very comfortable. I had a marvellous time in New York, much of which was due to the convenience of staying at in Kathy's apartment instead of an hotel.
