Branch Programme – 2009/2010 Meetings commence at 2pm 10 September:
David Leckie graduated from Edinburgh University with honours in law in 1984. He qualified in Scotland in 1987, in England and Wales in 1992 and called to the English Bar in 1994. He is a partner at Maclay Murray and Spens and practises both English and Scots law. His area of practice is commercial litigation and advocacy, with particular expertise in health, safety and environmental law. He is ranked in both the Chambers and Legal 500 directories as a leading expert in these fields, with a "practical and informative approach". His ranking for this year includes: "an excellent advocate who conjoins an extremely pragmatic and realistic outlook with a warm personality, leaving clients reassured that they are in safe hands". He formerly practised as a barrister at Lincoln's Inn, London, where he was on the Attorney General's list of approved health and safety counsel and prosecuted and defended in a wide range of such cases. He writes and lectures widely in his specialist areas and lectured in the post-graduate Diploma in Health and Safety course at Heriot-Watt University. He is the Scottish editor of Redgraves Health and Safety and is a contributor to Tolley's Health and Safety, Green's Employment Law and Butterworth's Corporate Liability. He co-authored the 1998 Human Rights Act 1998 Explained.
