Martin Zerable Gilroy

14/92 ObituaryGILROY, Martin Z. - 90, Amherst, Cumberland County,
died September 11, 1992, in Highland View Regional Hospital,
Amherst. Born in Linden, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late
William and Leveda (Holmes) Gilroy. He resided at the home of his
daughter for the past few years. He worked on the CNR for 24 years
and as a carpenter with the Nappan Experimental Farm before
retirement. He enjoyed music. He is survived by eight daughters,
Annie (Mrs. Allan Nelson), Medicine Hat, Alta.; Jean (Mrs. Spurgeon
Stewart), Summerside, P.E.I.; Doris (Mrs. Arnold Paugh), Mary (Mrs.
Garnet Porter), both of Amherst; Ethel (Mrs. Clinton Porter),
Warren; Mrs. Betty Ross, Salem; Marjorie (Mrs. Ben Gjaltema),
Riverview, N.B.; Eleanor (Mrs. Donald Sutherland), West Leicester;
six sons, Raymond, Ralph, Gordon, John, all of Salem; Lloyd,
Amherst; Lester, Parrsboro; sister, Blanche McArthur, Port Howe;
brother, William, Amherst; 55 grandchildren; several
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his wife, the former Catherine M. Dow; an infant
daughter; four brothers, Steve, Charlie, Duncan, Cecil; two sisters,
Maude Greeno, Bertha Slack. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in
Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, Maj. J. Smith officiating. Burial
will be in Athol Cemetery. Donations may be made to Arthritis
Society, Nova Scotia Division or any charity.

Aylesford; Hughie, British Columbia; Robert, Sudbury, Ont.; James,
Dowling, Ont.; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren;
sisters, Vera (Mrs. Norman Parker), Three Mile Plains; Ruth (Mrs.
Cyril Coffill), Violet, Port Williams; Audrey (Mrs. Cecil Tracey),
Brooklyn, Hants Co.; brother, Berton, Three Mile Plains; several
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Geoffery
Medford; daughter, Shirley Oickle; sons, Donald, Robie; grandson,

Raymond William Gilroy

23/96 Obituary-GilroyGILROY, Raymond William - 66, Stanley Road, died
January 22, 1996, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born
in Athol, he was a son of the late Martin and Catherine (Dowe)
Gilroy. He was a member of West Leicester United Church. He worked
in the gypsum quarry in Nappan. He later drove his own truck as an
independent trucker before working for many years as a snow plow
operator for the Department of Transportation until retiring due to
ill health. Surviving are his wife, the former Janette Simmonds;
daughters, Karen Gilroy, Oxford; Janet Gilroy, Salem; sons, Peter,
Tony, Salem; Alan, Sackville, N.B.; Roy, Amherst; sisters, Jean
Stewart, Summerside, P.E.I.; Eleanor Sutherland, West Leicester;
Mary Porter, Doris Paugh, Amherst; Ethel Porter, Warren; Ann Nelson,
Alberta; Marjorie Gjaletama, Moncton; Betty Ross, Stanley; brothers,
Gordon, Salem; John, Stanley Road; Lloyd, Hastings; Lester,
Parrsboro; Ralph, Amherst; 20 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter, Ann Spicer.

October 1, 1995, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born
in Amherst, she was a daughter of Raymond and Janette (Simmonds)
Gilroy, Salem, Cumberland Co. She was well-known throughout the
province as an accomplished wood carver, having shown her work at
several craft shows in Amherst and throughout the province. She
received an invitation and displayed a showing at Lunenburg Folk Art
Festival last August. She displayed her work at the Art Connection,
Amherst, and Rose Cottage Gallery, Baddeck. Surviving are her
husband, Brian R.; five sons from her former marriage, Denny, Adam,
Matthew and John Simpson, Amherst; Daniel Simpson, Calgary, Alta.;
stepdaughter, Janette (Mrs. Steven Chapman), Springhill; stepson,
Steven Spicer, Nappan; two step-grandchildren; sisters, Karen
Gilroy, Oxford; Janet Gilroy, Salem; brothers, Alan, Sackville,
