Warning! Eclectic
collection ahead!
It was really difficult coming up with this list, and I know I have
rather varied tastes, but here are some of my favourite films and why I
like them:
-
Gone With the Wind-wonderful scenery, glamorous costumes
-
It's A Wonderful Life-timeless favourite
-
The Sound of Music-another heartwarming timeless classic
-
White Christmas- wonderful choreography and music-they don't make
movies like this now
-
A Christmas Carol-just love Scrooge
-
Auntie Mame-riotous and outrageous (the Rosalind Russell version)
-
Lean On Me-as a teacher, I find it very inspiring
-
Blade Runner-well crafted and darkly optimistic
-
Fried Green Tomatoes-a wonderfully spirited tale of life
-
The Name of the Rose-medieval mystique and mystery (Sean Connery-enough
said)
-
Contact-a movie to address the fears of our times, it was very well
done
-
The Big Chill-icon of a generation
-
The Breakfast Club-definition of the 1980's
-
Robin Hood: Men in Tights-hopelessly funny and witty
-
Kindergarten Cop-silly but fun, love seeing Arnold buried in small
children
-
Sleepless in Seattle-warms the heart
-
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade-I love the combination of action,
humour, and history.
-
Raiders of the Lost Ark-same as above, action/adventure
-
The Wedding Banquet-east meets west-1990's style-I mostly like it
for its portrayal of modern Chinese life
-
Like Water for Chocolate-a wonderfully descriptive tale of life
and love
-
Harold and Maude-quirky and offbeat, pokes fun at our obsession
with youth and avoiding death
-
Abbott and Costello movies
-
James Bond movies.
-
Whoopi Goldberg (no particular movie, I like them all)

If I were stranded on a desert island, other than
the requisite gardening manuals and hut building books, these are what
I'd take. If I thought coming up with a list of favourite movies was hard,
this was twice so. But again, here goes:
