HEAD COACHMike Vanden HamHello everybody, my name is Mike Vanden Ham and I'm the head coach for the Edmonton Huma Swim Club. I've been head coach since 2005, and was an assistant coach for the two seasons prior. I also have completed the NCCP Level 1 and Level 2 coaching theory and technical courses and the Swim Alberta Skills Coaching Course. For the last three summers I also had the opportunity to direct and coach the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas competitive swim camps. My swimming background includes nine years with the Edmonton Huma swim club (1992-2001), three seasons with the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club, four season with the Olympian Swim Club and six seasons with the University of Alberta Varsity Swim Team. I am very excited about the upcoming summer season as HUMA defends its PROVINCIAL TITLE!!! I'm also looking forward to some FAST SWIMMING and A LOT OF FUN! ASSISTANT COACHESEwen Lavoie![]() Hello everyone! My name is Ewen Lavoie and this will be my third season as an Assistant Coach with Huma. I have been involved in competitive swimming in one form or another as a swimmer, coach, or volunteer for the past 13 years. I swam with the Olympian Swim Club for 8 years before joining the University of Alberta Varsity Swim Team in my first year of post-secondary education. I have had the opportunity and privilege to coach with Mike and Matt at the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas competitive swim camps over the past three summers. I have also coached for the Stony Plain Sharks Summer Swim Club, as well as my old club, the Olympian Swim Club. My e-mail is ewen_lavoie@hotmail.com . Erin Sutherland![]() Hi everyone! My name is Erin Sutherland and I am excited to start my third season with the Edmonton Huma Swim Club as an Assistant Coach. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue on with such a great club and am looking forward to an awesome summer! After swimming competitively in Grande Prairie both with the summer club and the winter club for 13 years, I swam for two years with the Grande Prairie Regional College Swim Team. For a short time I also swam for the Grande Prairie Synquatics Synchronized Swim Club. My coaching career started with the Grande Prairie Aquarians Swim Club and the Grande Prairie Piranhas Swim team, where I coached for several years. I also coached for the Synchronized Swim team in Grande Prairie. In 2005, I began coaching for the Beaverlodge Barracudas Swim Team, where I was Head Coach in 2006. Finally, during my time in Edmonton as a student at U of A the Huma Swim Club in 2007 and 2008. I look forward to meeting lots of new faces this summer and working with the coaches, parents and swimmers. I'm sure this summer will be tons of fun and a fantastic experience for everyone involved. Building on last year's successes I'm thrilled to be back on the summer circuit. Having swam with Huma for seven years before switching to winter club, I hope to instill the same fundamentals of swimming which my former Huma coaches rooted in me. My name is Maura Lavoie, and this will be my second summer with Huma. I was a competitive swimmer with the Olympian Swim Club for 10 years, and I am very excited to stay involved in the sport as a coach. I look forward to a fun and successful season this summer.
