Pocket Chart Computer Schedule

First and second graders can use the computer almost daily using this method. For taking turns, make a vertical pocket chart using library card holders and staple on the bulletin board right beside the computer. Make cards with the student's names on them and allow them to decorate the backside. Laminate the chart and the cards.

To use, put a name in each pocket. When the child has had a turn at the computer, s/he turns over the card with the appropriate name on it. Each child as well as the teacher can see who has had a turn that day at the computer. Shuffle the cards before replaing them in the pockets, so all students have equal chances at being first.

If we do not have much time for the computer on a ny given day, we play a game of JezzBall - or some other quickie game that involves eye/hand coordination. Gently toss a nerf-like ball at a child and ask that child to answer a computer-related question. They really enjoy this!
