How to Record Books
- Decide on the book you will record and have a cassette player and tapes ready..
- Speak into the microphone with a naturally expressive voice you would use as if reading to one child..
- Allow five to ten seconds lead time before recording..
- State the title of the story, author, and tape identification and side. (James and the Giant Peach, Roald Dahl, Tape 1, Side A)
- Give a short global introduction to the story and a reason to read the story..
- Tell the student, "Turn to page ___ in your book.
- Pause to allow the student enough time to find the page and look at the pictures.
- Say, "Follow along as you hear me read." Restate the page number in a normal voice.
- Record at a slow pace, in short phrases, and with expressive intonation
