The PC 20 years later

This month, August/2001, the PC will be 20 years old.

Initially built by IBM, likely that from now on until the end of 2001 we are going to see a lot of special overages about this matter.

PC has changed dramatically the world during the last 20 years,

At the beginning, it was just an improvement of the analogical technology for machines which arose among the 70's and 80's. I would say that we used to use the PC at that moment just like the horse for transportation and locomotion.

It is easy remember in how in the 80's everyone used to measure the PC's powerfulness by using phrases like: "This calculation would take 600 years if it was done manually..." etc.

That's past...

Nowadays, with the processing in the magnitude of terafloppies and with the scalar or vetorial supercomputing in your kitchen, the computational complexity it is not anymore that scary, and it has left the stage of awkward thing to be a trivial saying...or do you believe that your humble microwave toasts your pizza-hut in 10 seconds just by magic? and that your are dreaming while you receive an email from your IG/Sansumg fridge asking for more water??

The automobile has replaced the horse, and from that point on, a whole new infrastructure science has been changed and developed...With the PC and all the derivated technologies was like that as well.

Or else, let's see today the nanotechnology, the wireless devices and the need for the presence without being there...Today, is possible being in a place without never been or be there. Sounds a lie? yes, it might sounds...just like was the first television release, spreading the word that a box made of wood would bring images inside of it.

And around it, a whole new lifestyle was born.

And the systems has expanded, and expanded, and expanded...has expanded so much that the digital computer is now just another piece of another system, and no more the system itself. And more is yet to come.

Blaise Pascal would/is/will (pick your best composition by your religion :) ) be happy today. Anyway...
