ASSYRIA
Assyria, the land of the mighty and great.Ancient Assyria was compramised of todays Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. The Assyrian inventions way of life and art have played a significant role in todays world.
From the map of Assyria below it is easy to see the might held by the Assyrians.
The assyrian achivement are countless.These are some of the achivements and i stress some as there are many more that i am unaware of-;
-keys and locks were invented in Assyria
-the sexagesmil system of keeping time was developed in Assyria
-it is in Assyria where the first paved roads are used
-the fisrt postal system was developed in Assyria
-the first use of iron
-the first magnifying glasses
-the first university (Nisibis)
-the first libraries
-first plumbing
-the flush toilet
-the first battery
-the first guitar
-the great medical school at Gundeshapur
-the first aqeuducts
-the first arch
-the worlds first and oldest church (the church of the east)
-the first imperial administration, of dividing land into territories administered by loal governors that would report to the Assyrian king.
and the list goes on and on.....
It is noteable to also mention the Assyrian missionaries. The Assyrian church was larger than the Greek Orthodox and the Roman Catholic churches combined. In the 13 century the famous explorer Marco Polo reported the Assyrian Priest in the chinese royal court teaching about christ,These Assyrian priests had reached china in the sixth century. So succesful were the Assyrian priests that the first mongolian alphabat was based on the Assyrian alphabat.The Assyrians also were the foundattion of the Arab civilisation.
The Assyrians have lived for over 2000 years without their land but have managed to keep their identity,culture,religion and customs.Today the Assyrians are spread around the world with only 1 in 3 living in the Assyrian motherland.The Assyrian nation now adds up to 3 203 500.The Assyrian nation is clustered within these countries but there are many in other lands
*Brazil,Belgium,Greece, Austria, Armenia, Italy, England, France, Switzerland Germany, Sweden, USA, Australia, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and the list goes on......
But what does the future hold for the Assyrians, that my brothers and sisters lies in our hands.If we learn to write speak and talk our language, maintain our traditions and always remain proud of who we are (the mighty Assyrians) we will have a bright future.
