He Became Sin
But the LORD has caused the
iniquity of us all to fall on Him.
- Isaiah 53:6b -

What comforting words! Come, let us search ourselves
for inward sin, even if they be sins of the past.
Do you find deceit? God took that deceit and laid it on his Son. And considering his Son the deceitful one, he punished him. Do you find lustful thoughts? God took your lust and imputed it to Jesus. And considering Jesus the lustful one, he chastened him. Do you find apathy toward God? God laid that lovelessness upon Christ. And considering Christ the loveless one, he judged him. Do you rebel against the will of God and refuse to obey him? God transferred your rebellion, your stubbornness, your disobedience; and he placed it on Jesus. Then, seeing Jesus Christ as the one who was rebellious, he poured our his wrath on him, and condemned him in your place. And so it is with every great and little sin you find in yourself. The Father has taken them and transferred them onto his sinless Lamb, and punished him in your place. Because he has been judged for your sins, your debt is paid. And because your debt is paid, it is cancelled forever and you can go free! Sin is no longer imputed to you. Your sin is imputed to the Lamb of God so that his righteousness may be imputed to you. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor 5:21). Have you trusted Jesus to take all your sins away and make you pure before God? If you have not, you are like one who insists on being judged for a debt that has been paid. And how severe that judgment will be in the eternal fires of hell! Oh, that you would believe in him and depend upon his sacrifice to save you from sin and hell, for it is only then that his righteousness may be imputed to you and your sins may be forgiven. |
