A God of Glory

"I am the Lord, that is My name.  I will not give my glory to another..."
- Isaiah 42:8 -

Throughout the Bible we see that God does all things to glorify himself.  He blesses and provides for his people, displaying his awesome grace and love.  He pours out his wrath and judgment, showing his fierce justice and holiness.  He upholds all things, giving testimony to his eternal power and sovereignty.  Our God is a God of glory.

God works in us to glorify himself.  God works through us to glorify himself.  Our whole source and purpose is to "glorify God and enjoy Him forever" (Westminster Shorter Catechism).  That is the reason we were created.  That is the reason we live.

We find purpose, fulfillment and satisfaction in glorifying God and his Christ.  It glorifies him to bless and provide for us.  It glorifies him when we let him lead us.  We benefit from his glory.  But when we turn away, it glorifies God to discipline and punish us.  We suffer, but yet again it is to our benefit.  However we must first seek to "glorify God" before we can "enjoy Him".  Apart from his glory there is nothing.

It is for us to seek God's glory in everything.  May we earnestly echo the words of our Lord, "Father, glorify Thy name!" (Jn 12:28).
