No Turning Back

work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
- Philippians 2:12b -

"I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back, no turning back."

I love those Sunday school songs. Simple as they are, they contain wonderful truths. The person who has trusted in Jesus is on a one-way road to his heavenly home. He has passed from death into life eternal. The door is shut and bolted. There is no turning back.

From then he has two choices. He can progress, or he can stay put. He can surrender to Christ and become a disciple, or he can try to avoid it.

The cost of discipleship is high, for there is no place for the self. Nobody who walks this path and looks back is worthy. He must deny himself and be crucified with Christ. He must live for Christ and Christ alone, trusting solely and fully in His promises. The life of a disciple is sacrifice and surrender, but it is a glorious path to tread.

But to refuse Christ's lordship is to be like a willful, disobedient child; and how can a loving Father not discipline him? Such a person will have no peace till he realises that peace can only be found in giving God His rightful place in his life.

A real faith will be seen in real ways. And since there is no turning back, let us strive to be disciples of Jesus. The cost may be high, but the rewards are out of this world!
