Why Not Me?
Then I heard the voice of the
Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?"
Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
- Isaiah 6:8 -
The reason why we do not do greater things for Christ
is not because we cannot do them, but because we do not want to.
There is always that struggle, because the devil would prefer we stay put
in our areas of comfort than have us fight against him. He would
have us content, if he could, and so cause us to limit God and his
ministry and limit ourselves. Our voices ring loud: "Lord, I don't feel like sharing Christ with a stranger." But Christ said, "Go (Matt 28:19)." "Lord, I am so afraid. I just can't do it." But God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline (2 Tim 1:7). "Lord, I want to serve you but I can't find the time." But He says, "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows (Mal 3:10)." "But Lord, I am but a sinner and a weakling. How can I be of use to you?" Ah, you cry like Isaiah! And the Lord replies, "Your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven (Is 6:7)." And his Word has equipped us for every good work (2 Tim 3:17). Indeed, I can do all things through Him who strengthens me (Phil 4:13). "Why me, Lord?" we often cry. But really, why not me? God can take our filthy, empty vessel and cleanse it with the blood of Jesus and fill it with the Holy Spirit. Will we let him, and will we open our lids to be filled with living water till it overflows from us? Pass me not, O gentle Savior, Hear my humble cry; While on others Thou art calling, Do not pass me by |
