What Is A Horse Show?

Horse shows mean different things to different people, but they all involve a lot of planning with many people working to make them run smoothly.

Below are responses from interviews conducted by Emerald Empire Arabian 4-H members as to what a horse show is. As you will witness, horse shows have many different meanings to people.

  • Angela age 33. A horse show is an event where you take your horse, and show you and your horse's skills. You can compete against other riders. It is also a place to see friends, and lots of beautiful horses.

  • Jenay age 5. Something that you ride in, a show is for riding; I ride my pony in lead line.

  •  Merisa age 12. A horse show is a place where you can learn more and become closer with your horse and family. I think it is one of the best learning opportunities for a rider and their horses; it is also a great place to try to enjoy your horse and get to know them better. The most important thing at a horse show is that you have fun!

  • Amanda age 14. A horse show is the opportunity to go and perform your best. I don't believe it is about competing against each other. It is about competing against yourself and going out there and being the best you can be. A horse show is a fun, learning experience.

  • Jessie age 9. A horse show is where they see how good horses are, and their best performance.

  • David age 11. A horse show is where the judges judge the horses and see how good they are. It’s for the people to come and watch the horses. The horses jump for exercise the riders do so they can help the horses get exercise, they do it for trophies.

  • Bruce age 65. A horse show is people and horses competing for trophies.

  • Connor age 8. A horse show is where you trot, canter, and do jumps, and you show off.

  • Amy age 16. A horse show is were you go and compete against other people and horses. You try to prove that you are better or have tried harder than your competitors. 

  •  Alison age 13. A horse show is what your summer builds up to, and is an extra reward for your work. It is also a time to show off what you’ve learned and hear others advice on your riding. It’s also a great time with your friends, and horses.

  • Natalie age 13. A horse show is a place to show everyone what you’ve been practicing at the barn, and what you’ve been working hard on! It's a place to have fun, do your best, and make progress!

  • Kasey age 11. A horse show is riding on horses, having fun, and enjoying the ride.

  • Mrs.Laura age 30. A horse show is really pretty, well groomed horses, decorated with ribbons and nice saddles.

  • Sara age11. A horse show is people riding horses.

  • Rachel age 10. A horse show is a horse and a person, the person on the horse and walking around the arena. 

  • Colleen age 50. A horse show is stallions.

  • Mrs.Hall age 50. A horse show is young people fitting, showing, and conformation.

  • Dan age 12. A horse show is fun to watch.

  • Joe age 11. A horse show is - Pleasure! Pleasure! Pleasure! 

  • Mr.Moore age 45. A horse show is a riding ring with people leading horses around.
