Chapter I~ Kronos Sky Institution

The island of Kronos Sanctuary was divided into few parts: Kronos Bliss Castle, Kronos Sky Institution, Kronos Law enforcement, Kronos Water Shire, and Kronos Fallen Shine. Kronos Water Shire was the place where the islanders lived, and Kronos Fallen Shine was where ceremonies took places. Kronos Sky Institution was the place to study fighting skills. It was known among the countries. All the students there were elites or geniuses. It had been a year ever since Elwynn Eleanor had stepped into the land. Nothing changed. Trees were still as green as ever, and flowers were pretty like before.

            The Water Shire, Fallen Shine, Bliss Castle, and Law Enforcement were the four places that she absolutely couldn’t afford to be seen. There one location that she could go was Sky Institution. For the years that she was in Kronos Sanctuary, Kronos Sky Institution was the only place that she didn’t go. She was neither an elite nor a genius. She was a simpleton. Even though she wasn’t good enough, it didn’t mean that she couldn’t go to the school.

When people traveled, luggage was not necessary. All they had to do was to buy magical items such as necklace, earrings, rings, etc to keep their items. There were specific objects for specific types of items stored. Depending on the item chosen, it could have the option of carrying food, clothes, jewels, weapons, money, daily products, etc.

Elwynn had few magical items: cloth and imperishable items rings, weapon bracelet, food and money earrings. She took her old Kronos traditional white and black costume out of her right-handed ring. It had a collar that was of feathers, and so was her belt. It also had a pair of long gloves with black ribbon. The socks, which reached till her knees, were like her gloves. There was a short dress along with a black fabric, which was long until the floor. From the back, it looked like a dress. The top was a high-colt type, which flipped till the chest, and the top’s back had drawing of a pair of wings. After wearing it, she looked at the only thing that she didn’t take off from her other dress: her necklace. It wasn’t a magical item. It was a light aqua circled stone, accentuated by a darker aqua coloured crescent. In the middle of the crescent, there was a small light blue crescent. The bottom of that necklace was like the point of an arrow. A pair of wings accompanied the larger crescent. She tucked it inside of her clothes and headed for the school.

People saw her clothes and didn’t stop her. She successfully entered to the school. However, she did not dare to use her real name. The family ‘Eleanor’ was the noblest family of Kronos, and people knew all of its members. It would be too risky to use her real name, so she named herself Elwynn Tenshi.

            The first day of school was pretty boring. All the talked about were the basic information about fighting. Elwynn skipped that class and sneaked to the highest-level course. If there was anything that she was good at, it was to hide without anyone noticed her presence. She didn’t dare to go inside, so she was outside and looked through the slightly opened window.

“Class, today, we will talk about the types of things that our aura could do. Does anyone know what is aura?”

“Aura is the energy that surrounds us, teacher. It creates a thick protection for normal people. It enables us to do things exceeding our normal strength. The stronger the aura is, the more power you have.” A nerdy boy answered.

“Very good. Does anyone know what are the tree kinds of power our aura can turn to? Hum… Gwendel Hillands, how about you?”

            The brown-eyed boy looked up with tired eyes. He looked at the teacher with a weird look as if he was telling her that he didn’t listen. He had a long stand on his right and had a small ponytail in the back. The uniform did not really suit him. His grumpy face showed his irritable mood.

“Hum, Gwendel, can you answer my question? It is OK if you don’t know the answer.”

“What is the question?”

“I am asking the different types of power created by aura.”

“Oh, that’s a first grade question.”

“So can’t you answer it if you know.”

“Don’t feel like it. Now, lower your voice so that I can sleep.”

            He lowered his head on the table and slept. The teacher was very furious and found another person to answer her question. He was very quiet. He had bandages over his arms and over his left eye. The other eye that hadn’t been covered was ocean blue. He brushed his dark blue hair to the back and stared at the teacher.

“Ren Igelstelung, what about you?”

“…”

“I am asking you a question, mister.”

“…”

“Answer!”

“…”

“Leave him, teacher, he can’t speak. I will answer you.” The same nerdy boy said. “There are three types: Erei, Nigei, and Hakei. Erei is for living things, Nigei is for unanimated things, and Hakei is for summoning. The global name for them is Espsy.”

“Good answer. Of what are they composed? Len Schneider?”

            He was a cheerful boy. He always carried a smile. It seemed that there are shinning things surrounding him each time you looked at him. He had golden-orange hair and dark orange-red eyes. Proud of himself, Len stood up and sang a weird melody…

“Erei is… Lalalalala, U for un-der-stan-ding, A for ac-cep-tance, lalalalala! C for cre-a-tion, E for e-vo-lu-tion, and D for decomposition, lalalalala! That’s Uaced! Nigei is… Lalalalalala, U for un-der-stan-ding, A for ad-just-ment, lalalala! C for cre-a-tion, M for main-tenance, and D for de-struc-tion lalalalala! That’s Uacmd! Hakei is lalalalala, U for Un-der-stan-ding, C for cre-a-tion, lalalalalala! S for sum-mo-ning, lalalala, C for com-bi-na-tion, and D for des-truc-tion lalalalala! That’s UCSCD~! Erei is U-a-c-e-d, Nigei is U-a-c-m-d, Hakei is U-c-s-c-d~!”

Erei (living things): Understanding, acceptance, creation, evolution, decomposition

Nigei (unanimated things): Understanding, adjustment, creation, maintenance, destruction

Hakei (summons): Understanding, creation, summoning, combination, destruction)

“Mister Schneider! THAT’S OK! SHUT UP!”

“But… Putting it in a song is the only way that I can remember!”

“ARG!!! Just shut up! Or I’ll give you detention!”

“Yes, teacher…”

            The class continued on. The teacher explained each part of the Espsy. It was only theory about each of the groups. To accomplish one of the three Espsy, those steps were required. First, they had to understand the principles of the Espsy. The others were up to the type of attack that you wished. Of course, there was a limit of learning Espsy. Depending on the aura they had, they could totally master one to three Espsy. That meant that a person could learn a lot of Espsy, but couldn’t truly use them to the maximum. Normally, people would take either three in different groups or all in the same group. Then again, normal people could not learn not than one. Elites and geniuses could learn two, only rare occasion that they could have three. The most common Espsy was Nigei. Erei was the hardest one to learn and master.

            They all required understanding. It was the basic of the basic. What differed them were the other four steps. Per example, if they wanted to use fire, they had to learn Nigei. First, they had to understand all basic about it. Second, they had to adjust quantity and quality of the fire to make it to their liking. Third, they create it. Fourth, they had to maintain the fire until it reached to their opponent. Fifth, they killed or injured others with it. The step that will make one varied from another would be: evolution, adjustment, and combination. People, even if they used the same element, could have an attack completely different from another. It depended on the fighting skill that one had, and the aura he was born with.

            Elwynn was bored by the course. She thought that the highest level would be more challenging. What she needed was aura training and not mental training. The knowledge that she had could fill a library. Ever since she was small, she was forced to learn all those books by heart. She did a lot of physical training too. What she didn’t do much was aura training. For some reason, that seemed to be the thing that they avoided teaching her. They only taught her how to control her aura. Through books, she taught herself how to attack with her aura. Then one day… Something happened… Something that she engraved in her memory…

            Slam! The door opened, and a boy entered to the class. He was not like the other people. He was very handsome to start with. His blue hair was a little bit messy, and he had long stands that covered his eyes. He didn’t buckle the first few buttons on his uniform. He didn’t attach his tie either. His forest cold green eyes fixed to the teacher and sat down at his respective chair.

“Cypher Al Zetrac, how dare you to be late in my class? Have you no respect for me?”

“Of course that I don’t.” He answered coldly.

“Why you! DO NOT ever be late again!”

“I won’t...”

“Hun?” The teacher was expected more fight than this.

“I quit!”

“WHAT?!?”

“There is nothing that you know that I don’t. I don’t want to waste my time here.”

“How dare you! You disrespectful brat!”

“Whatever.”

            He walked out of the room while slamming the door again. Elwynn, having more interest in him than the class, followed him.

“What are you doing here following me?” Cypher asked.

“Oh! I was bored at the class. The teacher was blabbing all courses long! It was so boring that I decided to go away. And since you think like that too, I figure that you and I can become very good friends. What is your name?”

“Didn’t you hear the teacher?”

“Yes. But it is nicer to hear when you say it. Oh! I wasn’t very polite! I forgot to present myself first! My name is Elwynn Tenshi. You can call me Ely or Wynn Wynn! So what is yours?”

“You already know.”

“Come on!”

“Leave me.”

“I won’t! Tell me your name!”

            Feeling annoyed, Cypher used his aura to produce a small fire to warn Elwynn. Obviously, the girl didn’t expect that because she advanced into the flame without looking.

“Ouch! Hot! Hot! Hot! Water! I need water!”

“…”

            Cypher looked at her with a weird face. Never had he seen a girl as ‘weird’ as this. If there was a fire, all she had to do was changing her aura to water. Didn’t she know that? She had a lot of aura surrounding her, so she must know. Knowing that, he decided to go away.

“Ouch! Fire! Wait… A water spell… Hum… How can I cast a water spell! AHHH! Fire! Help me! Cypher! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“So you know my name without having me to tell you.”

“Yeah I know! Help me! Please!!!”

“Hahahaha!”

“Don’t laugh!”

            Seeing that he had no intention of helping, Elwynn ran toward him. If he was burned, he must use a water spell. Having no interest of getting burned, Roy used water spell straight away. SPLASH! A stream of water felt from the sky on top of the places that had flames.

“Thank you…” The girl said.

            The boy ignored her. She wanted to dry herself up but couldn’t remember the spell to do it. So she asked for help again.

“Hum… Can you help me to dry my clothes?”

“…”

“Please?”

“…”

“Pretty please?”

“…”

“Pretty please?”

            He, having no intention of staying, walked away. She continued to bug him with her pleases and followed him with her wet and burned dress.

“Pretty please with a cherry on top?”

“…”

“Hum… Pretty please with chocolate on top? No, even better, an ice cream Sunday! With chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on top! Oh! Let’s add some chocolate and cookies too! And brownies too! It will be delicious! I wonder if Lily can make me one for lunch today?”

“You talk too much.”

“Hum… What was I asking you again? Before brownies I said chocolate and cookies. Then I said what… Cream? Or cherry? Or was I talking about animals? No! I was talking about my pet! It doesn’t seem so…”

“Helping you.” The boy said in an annoyed tone.

“Help me? For what?”

“Clothes.”

“Clothes? Oh! Can you fix them?”

“…”

“Come on!!! Pretty Please with…”

“Stop. I’ll help you.”

“Thank you, you are the best!”

            She gave him a smile, and his heart jumped faster when he saw it. How long had it been that someone smiled at him? A smile that came from their heart… Quickly, he got a hold of himself and fixed her dress with a spell. Her little face showed happiness as she looked around her dress to see if there was any flaw. He looked as her cheerful smile. How many expressions could she have in a minute? It seemed everything that she thought could be shown on her face. She wasn’t like anyone he knew. The ones that he knew all concealed their feeling and put on a false mask…

“Hey! What are you thinking? Can I know?”

“Nothing.”

“So, now we are friends! And you still haven’t called my name!”

“Since when are we friends?”

“Just now.”

“How?”

“You helped me. Friends help each other. So you and I are friends, Cyph!”

“Cyph? Why are you calling me Cyph?”

“Because it’ll make me more special!”

“Hun?”

“If I am the only one to call you that, I will be special in your eyes!”

“What a weird way of thinking.”

“Hey! That’s not nice! So, What are you calling me? Ely or Wynn Wynn?”

“Does anyone call you by those names?”

“Wynn Wynn yes, but not Ely.”

“Then I’ll call you Ely. That’ll make me special in your eyes, right?”

“Yup! Good to know you, Cyph!”

“Right back at you, Ely.”

“What are you planning to do now?”

“Nothing.”

“Oh, that’s boring!”

“What do you suggest?”

“Hum… Oh! Let’s sneak to the staff’s department and play a joke on the teacher that was super mad at you!”

“Sure.”

“Let’s go! I’ll name this ‘Operation Madden’!”

“What?”

“Hehehe! Let’s go!”

            She took his hand and ran to the staff room. While holding her hand, Cypher realized how much he talked today. Normally, he just ignored the others or talked coldly at them. With Elwynn, he wasn’t like that. He was able to talk openly and freely. He really liked her presence. Her smile was so sweet and warm that melted the ice that enveloped him. She was the light that he sought. She was his friend, the only friend he’ll ever need.

“Cyph? Why aren’t you moving?”

“Nothing in particular.”

“What are you thinking about? Come on, tell me!”

“I’m just thinking how would happen if I leave you alone with the teacher after playing the joke.” He joked.

“You wouldn’t dare!”

“We’ll see if I will or not.”

“Cyph!!!!!!”

“Hahaha! Shall we go?”

“Of course!”
