Gold Mantled Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus lateralis) Notes From Dennis Quinter The Golden Mantled's were very calm easy going critters. Mine were captive born and hand raised. They had no fear of anything. They would come right up to a shop vac hose when I swept around the cage. And they were very nosey. That had to check out everything going on. Even ones that were not real tame were not likely to bite. There was no odor problem. They went in the same corner of thecage all the time. The down side is they need to hibernate to breed in the spring. They are very pretty animals. |
